Mountain Gorillas

The Female Gorilla

Female mountain gorillas are almost the same as male mountain gorillas when it comes time to leave their family they go off to find a male to be with. When they finally find the right male the female will mate and have her offspring. A female gorilla will give birth every four years. The female, male, and his other females travel everyday in search of vegetation so to keep track of her baby it will hang from her fur. If the baby falls off he can easily crawl back up again and rest during the journey. The female gorilla is very protective over her offspring and even over those offspring of the other females. The female gorillas never are jelous of eachother and they usually all have some quality time with their mate. If the mate isnt up to it he will simply show his teeth and the females will scatter. Occasionaly a male will come and attack the females silverback. Often the silverback who won the fight will earn a female but not all of the time. Many times the silverback male doesnt want to look bad infront of his mates so he'll try his hardest. Not just to show off but also to keep his family protected. Female gorillas take care of all eachothers offspring. To the babys it will feel like they have many other gorillas to rely on other than the mother gorilla. Female gorillas have all black fur and they have they all have different nose prints. Scientist and vetrinerians believe that female gorillas also live 35-40 years of age. Female gorillas can weigh up to about 300-400 pounds.
